Presidency International School fondly remembers Lt. Col (Retd.) Mohammad Zia Uddin, Bir Uttom — a heroic freedom fighter, visionary educator, and a devoted son of Bangladesh. His life was defined by courage, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to nation-building.

Born in 1941 in Harbang, Cox’s Bazar, he rose from a humble childhood to become one of the distinguished officers of the Pakistan Army, later joining the Liberation War with extraordinary bravery. For his fearless leadership during the 1971 war, he was awarded the gallant title Bir Uttom, one of the highest honours bestowed by the Government of Bangladesh.

After a long and eventful public life, marked by leadership roles in military, administrative, and corporate sectors, Lt. Col. Zia Uddin dedicated himself wholeheartedly to education. In 1999, he joined Presidency International School — an institution he served with deep passion for over 26 years. He often described his years at Presidency as the most fulfilling and peaceful period of his life.

As a Principal and mentor, he played a transformative role in shaping the school’s values, discipline, and academic culture. Under his devoted guidance, Presidency strengthened its reputation for quality education and moral development, truly embodying the motto “Build Thyself.” His humility, principled leadership, and tireless service left an enduring influence on students, teachers, and the wider school community.
